One thing that I found odd about the recent student tuition fees crop of protests is that the corollary of the result is that they are pro-State. For without the Nationstate, there wouldn't be anyone to extract money from the taxpayers to give to the students.

All very creepy.

In essence, by demanding from The State that which it cannot or is not prepared to provide, the demands of the protestors become part of the increasing list of all important revolutionary transitional demands.

What's creepier though is that nobody seems to be able to conceive of any sort of organised entity operating as "The State" that might actually serve the interests of the people to any degree.

Which is where Trotsky's idea of "permanent revolution" enters the equation. In a permanent revolutionary situation no person or entity has the luxury of being allowed to get too comfortable, as they would if, for example, they were granted an unchallenged five year tenure determined by sham elections that masquerade as democracy.
