Mainstream Conspiraloon #735 - Lord WarWar
![]() |
| Lord Simon Jenkins of WarWar |
Why do we still go to war? We seem unable to stop. We find any excuse for this post-imperial fidget and yet we keep getting trapped. Germans do not do it, or Spanish or Swedes. Britain's borders and British people have not been under serious threat for a generation. Yet time and again our leaders crave battle. Why?
....
It is not democracy that keeps western nations at war, but armies and the interests now massed behind them. The greatest speech about modern defence was made in 1961 by the US president Eisenhower. He was no leftwinger, but a former general and conservative Republican. Looking back over his time in office, his farewell message to America was a simple warning against the "disastrous rise of misplaced power" of a military-industrial complex with "unwarranted influence on government". A burgeoning defence establishment, backed by large corporate interests, would one day employ so many people as to corrupt the political system. (His original draft even referred to a "military-industrial-congressional complex".) This lobby, said Eisenhower, could become so huge as to "endanger our liberties and democratic processes"
.....
The cold war strategist, George Kennan, wrote prophetically: "Were the Soviet Union to sink tomorrow under the waters of the ocean, the American military-industrial complex would have to remain, substantially unchanged, until ."

The Loyal Opposition
...and he appeared from a pink mist in our hour of need.
In a daring intellectual paradigm shift, Red Ed Miliband expounded his view that the workshy layabouts cluttering our big society are the single most important threat to our way of life.
Not the concentration of financial power, mercantile war or the alarming epidemic of male lesbians.
The unemployed, that's your problem, pal.
The insight, apparently, is that if you humiliate and harrass them enough, then they will all find jobs. Their anguish will transubstantiate into the purest gainful employment.
Bold thinking indeed.
It is this sort of bravery which gains the admiration of the London Guardian, the Policy Exchange Cabal and the dessicated, life hating ascetic Frank Field.
After all, and despite his best efforts, opinion polls are still showing support for his party.
This cannot stand.
If people expect government to work on their behalf, then they are obviously living in the past.
A modern leadership cannot serve two masters.
He must extinguish all hope, to better allow the government's work to mercilessly progress.
Work that he, or someone exactly like him, might someday be permitted to continue.
Watched over by rulers of plutocratic grace.
What a fucking cunt.

Congratulations to the people of Iceland
A healthy outlook is essential in these timesPartial referendum results show 58% voting no, and 42% supporting the plan.
"The dispute has grown acrimonious, with Britain and the Netherlands threatening to block Iceland's bid to join the EU unless it is resolved."Some threat.
The guardian article politely declines to highlight the advantages of Icelandic strategy compared to the similarly stricken Celtic flea bag, but Bloomberg takes a more reasoned view.
All this goes to show that democracy and humans remain the single greatest threat to the ruling financial oligarchy.
