I remember, as kid, even before I understood what words like 'rape' or 'stalking' meant, sensing that there was something distinctly not right about Pepe, but I just put it down to him being French

Up to this strange point, everyone seemed to hold that attitiude towards Monsieur Strauss Khan as well.

Nominations for honorary conspiraloons: the Scottish Solicitor's magazine The Firm, and Gareth Pierce.

From an interview in the magazine,

"It is that last, self evident truth that many Scottish citizens find quite difficult to come to terms with; the effort required to maintain the fiction of the Crown case, and the active will of the participants to sustain a fragile and fantastic deception. What she and those who have inquired with any rigour into this affair can see clearly, is that the effort and consensual coordination between the Governments of Washington, London, Tripoli and Edinburgh, and their functionaries at successive levels of responsibility from ministerial to Police level, have been engaged with some vigour in precisely that. And it is nothing new, being a reality she first encountered in the 1970s.""

Hi Paul

Here's a link to Prof Black's Lockerbie Blog ... stick it in your feed reader for your daily dose.

And talking of weird ...

I was listening to the Corbett report discussing the term 'conspiracy theorists'. He explained that the term was used as a put down of critics of the Warren Commission; rather than refute their objections the defenders of the Commission's report simply responded by calling the detractors 'conspiracy theorists'.

All very interesting but ... google has an app called 'ngam'. The app normalises and graphs words from a representative collection of books. It does this over a time period - the default being from 1800 to 2000.

Guess what happens when you stick 'conspiracy theorists' into the app? Zero incidence of the expression being used in the English language from 1800 until 1960-1965 from whence it exponentially rises.

Here's a post on the subject for, hopefully, greater clarity.

That would probably be the 50th of Mr Corbett's podcasts 'The C Word'. I know it well, mostly because I was miffed he beat the Conspiraloon Alliance to the title

Ngam I didn't know about, ta

Yet more conspiraloonery, this time from the pen of Alan Bleasdale, GBH, which is being broadcast by Channel4.

"Strauss-Kahn before him, was charged yesterday by the US with a sex crime against a luxury hotel maid"

well, when you're the head of the IMF you wouldn't be caught dead molesting a Value Range maid

On the subject of being caught dead, if this is the reason why Monsiuer DSK was slated to take early retirement he'd be tucked away safely at the bottom of the North Atantlic with a satsuma in his mouth clutching a hard drive stuffed with child porn by now

When Putin said Russia would resist American military expansion with cost-effective asymmetric counter-measures he wasn't kidding

How much does a Freeview box cost these days? Twenty? Thirty? quid?
